Medical School Graduation Years 2009-10 Through 2015-16
The table below displays the number of U.S. MD-granting and DO-granting school graduates from a given academic year who subsequently completed a residency program in each specialty, by type of degree program (e.g., MD-PhD). The data displayed are for the most recently completed ACGME-accredited specialty and subspecialty as of Dec. 31, 2020. For example, for the graduating class of 2015-16, Emergency Medicine was the last completed specialty for 1,400 MD graduates, 13 MD-PhD graduates, 55 graduates with another combined MD-graduate degree (e.g., MD-MPH), and 487 DO graduates. The graduation years are shown in three-year increments, from 2009-10 through 2015-16. Individuals who are shown as having completed a residency may be active again in another residency program. Counts shown for specialties do not include counts for the related subspecialties. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with any comments or questions.
