Three New Commissioners Appointed To MedPAC, Including AAMC-Member

May 30, 2014—U.S. Comptroller General Gene L. Dodaro May 29 announced the appointment of three new commissioners, as well as the reappointment of three current commissioners to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) and the designation of a new vice chair.  One of the new commissioners, Warner Thomas, M.B.A., is president and CEO of the Ochsner Health System in New Orleans, an AAMC-member institution.

In addition to Thomas, the other two newly appointed commissioners are Kathy Buto, M.P.A, an expert in U.S. and international health policy, and Francis “Jay” Crosson, M.D., group vice president, American Medical Association. Dr. Crosson previously served on the commission from 2004 to 2010.  The new vice chair of the commission will be Jon B. Christianson, Ph.D., professor in the Division of Health Policy and Management at the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota.

The outgoing commissioners are MedPAC Vice Chair Michael Chernew, Ph.D.; Peter Butler, M.H.S.A.; and George N. Miller, Jr., M.H.S.A.
