February 21, 2014—Rep. Rush Holt, Ph.D. (D-N.J.) Feb. 18 announced he will not seek re-election in 2014 after serving seven terms in Congress. Prior to serving in Congress, Rep. Holt, a nuclear physicist, spent most of his career in academia. In 2011 Rep. Holt became the only person to conquer IBM supercomputer “Watson” in a Jeopardy! match. He serves on the Committee on Education and the Workforce, including its subcommittees on Higher Education and Workforce Training; and Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions. Rep. Holt also sits on the Committee on Natural Resources.

Freshman Rep. Gloria Negrete McLeod (D-Calif.) Feb. 18 announced in an email statement she will not run for reelection in 2014 because she intends to run for San Bernardino County supervisor. She currently serves on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and the Committee on Agriculture.
