On the Hill...

October 11, 2013—Rep. C.W. Bill Young (R-Fla.) Oct. 9 announced that he will not seek re-election in 2014. Elected in 1971, Rep. Young is the longest-serving Republican member of Congress. He is currently a member of the House Committee on Appropriations and served as the chair from 1999-2005. He is also the chair of the Appropriations Defense Subcommittee and a member of the Appropriations Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee. In addition to wanting to spend more time with his family, Rep. Young cited political gridlock as a reason for his decision to retire.
