Feb. 13: AAMC-IOM Meeting, “Building Effectiveness and Implementation Research into Clinical Practice: The Role of Academic Medical Centers.”

The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) will co-sponsor a meeting of leaders from AAMC member medical schools and teaching hospitals committed to building their institution’s capacities in clinical effectiveness research and implementation science. Feb. 14:NIH Working Group on Diversity Meeting
10 a.m.; 9000 Rockville Pike, Building 31, C Wing, Room 6C6; Bethesda, Maryland
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Advisory Committee to the Director (ACD) Working Group on Diversity in the Biomedical Research Workforce will hold a public meeting to hear presentations on the White House initiatives on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Educational Excellence for Hispanics, Asian American and Pacific Islanders, and American Indian and Alaska Native Education. The meeting also will include a public comment session. The Working Group has released a Request for Information (RFI) to solicit input from those unable to attend the public meeting. The RFI closes on February 24, 2012.

Feb. 14: Senate Budget Hearing on FY 13 Budget with Jeffrey Zients
10 a.m.; 608 Dirksen Building; Washington, D.C.
The Senate Budget Committee will hear testimony from Jeffrey Zients, acting director of the Office of Management and Budget, on the administration's fiscal 2013 budget proposals. The hearing also will be available via webcast.

Feb. 14: Senate HELP Committee Hearing on Pain Relief Efforts
2:30 p.m.; 430 Dirksen Building; Washington, D.C.
The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee will hold a hearing entitled “Pain in America: Exploring Challenges to Relief.” Witness include: Lawrence Tabak, D.D.S., Ph.D., principal deputy director, National Institutes of Health; Philip Pizzo, M.D., dean of the School of Medicine, Stanford University School of Medicine; John Sarno, M.D., professor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine, NYU School of Medicine; William Maixner, D.D.S., Ph.D., director, Center for Neurosensory Disorders, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and Christin Veasley, executive director, National Vulvodynia Association.

Feb. 15: House Budget Hearing on FY13 Budget with Jeffrey Zients

The House of Representatives Committee on the Budget will hear testimony from Jeffrey Zients, acting director of the Office of Management and Budget, on the administration's fiscal 2013 budget proposals.

Feb. 15: Senate Finance Hearing on HHS FY13 Budget with Kathleen Sebelius
10 a.m.; 215 Dirksen Building; Washington, D.C
The Senate Finance Committee will hear testimony from Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), on the administration’s fiscal 2013 budget proposal for HHS. The hearing also will be available via webcast.

Feb. 15: House Energy & Commerce Hearing on Reauthorization of MDUFA
10 a.m.; 2322 Rayburn House Office Building; Washington, D.C.
The House Energy and Commerce Committee will hold a hearing entitled “Reauthorization of MDUFA: What It Means for Jobs, Innovation and Patients.” Dr. Jeffrey Shuren, director, Center for Devices and Radiological Health at the FDA, will be a witness.

Feb. 15: House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Hearing on FY13 Budget
10:30 a.m.; 334 Cannon House Office Building Washington, DC

The House of Representatives Committee on Veterans' Affairs will hold a hearing on the fiscal 2013 budget proposal for the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. The hearing also will be available via webcast.

Feb. 16: MACPAC

The Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission will hold a hearing on Feb. 16. Details pending.

Feb. 17: Science Committee Hearing on FY13 R&D Funding with John Holdren
9:30 a.m.; 2318 Rayburn House Office Building; Washington, D.C.
The House of Representatives Science, Space, and Technology Committee will hear testimony from John P. Holdren, director, Office of Science and Technology Policy, on the fiscal 2013 budget request for scientific research and development programs.
