OMB Director to be White House Chief of Staff

January 13, 2011—The White House Jan. 9 announced that Chief of Staff Bill Daley will resign his post after a year in the position, and will be succeeded by Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Jack Lew. Lew has been in his current role since Nov. 18, 2010, a position he previously held under President Clinton from 1998 to 2001. Among other positions, he served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of New York University.

The president’s choice to fill the vacancy at OMB will need to be confirmed by the Senate. The White House is expected to submit its FY 2013 budget request to Congress Feb. 6, though the date has yet to be confirmed.
