Care Innovation Programs

The AAMC and its member institutions drive some of the most innovative care redesign programs across the nation. The AAMC facilitates a number of initiatives ranging from developing new payment models to advancing digital communication between providers. Learn more about some of these initiatives are below.

Bundled Payments Initiative
AMCs across the country are engaged in shared savings and bundled payments programs. As a facilitator-convener for the CMMI Bundled Payment program, we have developed expertise and training programs available to our members.

eConsults/eReferrals
This project, supported by a grant from the CMMI Health Care Innovation Awards, “eConsults/eReferrals: Controlling Costs and Improving Quality at the Interface of Primary Care and Specialty Care,” seeks to leverage the EMR and a shift in physician workflow and incentives to drive a reduction in marginal referrals, improve access to specialists, and enhance the patient experience.

Integrating Quality
The Integrating Quality (IQ) mission is to lead and support AAMC members in achieving safe, high-quality, high-value health care that is driven by continuous quality improvement and implemented throughout interprofessional education and clinical practice.

Innovation Challenge Awards
This program recognizes AAMC member teaching hospitals and medical schools that have implemented—or are developing—programs to address clinical care innovations, including new delivery, payment and training models, which integrate education and research to improve value and quality.
