Council of Academic Health System Executives (CAHSE)
The Council of Academic Health System Executives (CAHSE, pronounced case) supports the CEOs and other senior executives in comparable roles who lead the AAMC-member academic health systems.
Transitioning to new council for health system executives
The AAMC Board of Directors and the AAMC Assembly have approved the transition of the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems (COTH) to the Council of Academic Health System Executives (CAHSE). The new council focuses on the unique challenges faced by system-level leaders who oversee the highly complex clinical enterprises that improve health care outcomes while supporting medical education, research, and community collaboration. About
CAHSE members include the CEOs, presidents, and other executives who lead the AAMC’s nearly 400-member teaching hospitals and health systems. They concentrate on issues specific to academic medicine, such as demonstrating its value and societal good; financing graduate medical education; funds flow and enterprisewide mission alignment; and mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships with community providers.
Recognized as a benchmark for leadership excellence in patient care, medical education, and research, CAHSE membership is for hospitals and health systems by application. Applicants must be reviewed by the CAHSE Administrative Board and approved by the AAMC Board of Directors. Applicants must have both a formal and documented affiliation agreement with an accredited medical school and/or school of osteopathic medicine and at least one ACGME-accredited residency program.
