Figure 1 displays the gaps between male and female applicants from 1980-1981 to 2018-2019. The number of female applicants reached parity in 2002-2003 and even surpassed male applicants by a small margin in 2003-2004 and 2004-2005. However, in 2005-2006 male applicants once again surpassed female applicants — a gap that persisted until 2018-2019. In 2018-2019, 50.9% of applicants were female and 49.0% of applicants were male.
