Updates From ERAS Leadership
Dear Colleagues,
Happy Holidays! We are immensely proud to work with you in improving the transition to residency, assisting learners with a more streamlined application and interview process, and building a diverse and effective future physician workforce. Thank you for your continuing input, guidance and support.
Looking back at 2023, together we can celebrate that we have:
- Increased adoption of innovative tools. Nearly 25 specialties are now using program signals to support holistic review.
- Reduced applications. The average number of applications per residency applicant decreased for the first time in more than a decade, resulting in lower costs and reduced program burden.
- Improved system performance. 99.5% uptime and no issues during critical events.
We hope that the holiday season provides you with an opportunity to pause and reflect on the past year and to take time for self-care and renewal. We look forward to continued work together in 2024.
Sincerely,
Patrick Fritz

New Article Examines Program Signaling Impact on Interview Selection
A team of authors including residency program directors and AAMC researchers have authored an article in the Journal of Graduate Medical Education examining the influence of program signaling across specialties in the 2022 ERAS residency season.
The authors looked at the “selected to interview” status in the ERAS system for specialties that participated in signaling as part of the supplemental ERAS application. They noted that while there was variability by program, signaling increased the likelihood of interview selection among participating specialties.

Program Directors: Please Complete the 2024 ERAS Program Director Feedback Survey by Jan. 5
If you are a residency program director, please take time to share your feedback with the AAMC by completing the 2024 Program Director Feedback Survey. You should have received an email from ERAS Communications with a link to the survey. If you did not receive this email, or if the link is not working, please contact ERAS Client Technical Support.
Your feedback will help the AAMC better understand program directors’ experiences using the Program Director’s WorkStation (PDWS) during the 2024 ERAS residency recruitment season. The survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete, and your responses will help drive improvements to both the MyERAS® application and the PDWS for future application cycles.
The survey has been extended and will remain open through Friday, Jan. 5 at 5 p.m. ET.
