Updates from Leadership
Dear Colleagues,
The 2025 ERAS season is almost here! On Wednesday, June 5, the ERAS system will open for applicants to begin registering tokens and working on their applications. We’re pleased to share many enhancements we have made while keeping our focus on data, analytics, and research to improve the transition to residency for learners, advisors, programs, and specialties.
A few reminders and items of note as you prepare for the 2025 application season:
- Please visit What You Need to Know About the 2025 Application Season for an overview of key dates, resources, webinars, and other information.
- For programs whose specialties are participating in program signals, please opt-in via Program Management in the Program Director’s WorkStation (PDWS) by Sunday, June 30. The ERAS team will continue to update program signal information on our website.
- July fellowship applicants can begin submitting applications on Wednesday, July 3, at 9 a.m. ET, and fellowship programs can start reviewing those applications on Wednesday, July 17 at 9 a.m. ET.
- The Thalamus integration will launch in July. Please see the announcement below to register for upcoming webinars. If you were unable to join our recent webinar for program teams, I encourage you to watch the recording.
Our team looks forward to continuing our work together in the coming year. Please contact us if you have questions, suggestions, or other feedback.
Sincerely,
Patrick Fritz

New AAMC Research and Action Institute Data Snapshot Shows States with Abortion Bans See Continued Decrease in U.S. MD Senior Residency Applicants
A new data snapshot developed by the AAMC Research and Action Institute provides an updated analysis of the training location preferences of U.S. medical school graduates two years after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade with the 2022 decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The data show that the number of new medical graduates from U.S. MD programs applying to residency programs decreased, and that those decreases were more pronounced in states that banned abortions compared to states without bans. The examination of two years of data suggests that restrictions on women’s health care may continue to disproportionately decrease the likelihood that U.S. MD seniors will apply for residencies in states with the most restrictive practice environments.
