    CMS Re-Evaluating Star Ratings Methodology

Gayle Lee, Director, Physician Payment & Quality

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is re-evaluating the Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating on Hospital Compare with the assistance of an outside contractor, Yale New Haven Centers for Outcomes Research. The primary objective of the Star Rating program is to summarize information from existing measures on Hospital Compare in a way that is easy to understand for patients and consumers.

CMS issued a notice seeking public input on changes to the methodology for determining Star Ratings. The AAMC will be providing feedback to CMS on the questions raised regarding enhancements and changings to the methodology. Comments are due September 27.
