PCORI Announces “Pipeline to Proposal” Awards Initiative

October 18, 2013—The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Oct. 15 announced the launch of a new initiative designed to develop health research partnerships among groups and individuals who may not typically work together on such efforts. Beginning as a pilot project, the Pipeline to Proposal opportunity offers clinicians, patients, and other health care stakeholders in 13 western states the opportunity to apply for “Tier 1” awards of up to $15,000 each.

Proposals are sought through a Request for Proposal (RFP) process.  Responses to the RFP are due Dec. 2. The funds will provide seed money for partners to develop patient-centered research collaborations around shared interests. PCORI anticipates making up to 25 awards.

The Pipeline to Proposal awards are the first awards to be made under the Eugene Washington PCORI Engagement Awards program, discussed at the Board of Governors meeting last month [see Washington Highlights, Sept. 27]. Denver-based Colorado Foundation for Public Health and the Environment will serve to manage the awards and function as the intermediate funder for the pilot program.

PCORI Oct. 17 named Harold Sox, M.D., a professor at Dartmouth College’s Geisel School of Medicine, as a senior adviser to identify specific research questions based on a high-priority research topic chosen by PCORI’s Advisory Panel on Assessment of Prevent, Diagnosis, and Treatment Option.
