PCORI Makes New Funding Announcements

June 21, 2013—PCORI announced two new mechanisms for research funding. The first, announced June 17, is the Patient Engagement Awards Program that is making available up to $1.2 million in targeted funding to patients, clinicians and primary caregivers.

The program’s goal is to build research capacity and begins with a series of $15,000 awards targeting patient and other non-research groups to build their capacity to participate in research alongside clinicians and researchers. These Pipeline to Proposal Awards are the first set of awards in the series, and will commence when an intermediate funding management organization is identified.

On June 18, PCORI also announced the availability of up to $17 million in funding that targets projects evaluating treatment options for asthma in African-American and Hispanic/Latino populations. Proposed projects should focus on comprehensive and coordinated approaches to complications and management of asthma, targeting outcomes that matter to patients and family caregivers.

PCORI will host a webinar on July 9, for those who are interested in applying for the Treatment Options for Uncontrolled Asthma funding.   Letters of intent are due Aug. 1, followed by an application due date of Sept. 18.
