AAMC Submits Language to Party Platforms

July 20, 2012—The AAMC July 16 submitted language to both the Republican  and Democratic  parties for inclusion in their respective platforms for their national conventions later this summer.

The letters state, “The nation’s medical schools and teaching hospitals lay the foundation for the best medical care in the world by educating and training tomorrow’s doctors, finding tomorrow’s cures, and providing quality health care to all in need,” and urge the parties to “continue to promote policies that strengthen their core missions of medical education, patient care, and medical research.”

“Recognizing that all Americans benefit from the Federal investment in medical education, medical research, and innovations in patient care,” the letters also note, “the Federal Government is an essential partner with the nation’s medical schools and teaching hospitals and supports these activities through the National Institutes of Health and other Federal agencies for medical research, through Medicare support for graduate medical education and the specialized care and services provided by teaching hospitals, and through the Public Health Service for health professions education.”
