Creating a Welcoming Environment for Gender Diversity in Medical School Admissions

Please join the GSA Committees on Admissions and Student Diversity Affairs on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, 11:00 am ET for Creating a Welcoming Environment for Gender Diversity in Medical School Admissions. During this 75-minute webinar, representatives from AAMC member institutions will discuss steps they have taken to create safe, welcoming environments for students with diverse gender identities and expressions. Panelists will also share promising practices that admissions officers, and the broader institution, can implement in order to improve the interview process for students with gender diversity and to create an inclusive learning environment for all.

By the end of this webinar participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of terms used to describe gender identity.
  • Discuss the relevance and rationale for including gender identity in admissions.
  • Discuss a range of steps institutions are taking to improve the admissions process for students with diverse gender identities.
  • Improve their institution’s level of preparedness to consider gender identity in admissions and create a welcoming environment for students of diverse gender expressions.
  • Understand the steps needed to prepare their medical education and student services offices to interview, and respond to inquiries from, students with diverse gender identities.
