Guide to Central Group on Educational Affairs

The CGEA's primary concern is the process of medical education in the settings in which it takes place.

The CGEA is one of four regions that comprise the national GEA. The CGEA medical schools are located in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. They are also in the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The CGEA has two annual meetings, a spring regional meeting at a member institution and a fall meeting at the national AAMC meeting. Faculty and staff of CGEA schools who are interested in medical education are welcome and encouraged to participate in these meetings.

The CGEA has four sections: Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME), Graduate Medical Education (GME), Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and Medical Education Scholarship Research and Evaluation (MESRE). The CGEA Sections are actively involved in planning the annual meeting. The leaders of these sections are also involved with the national sections, informing Central Group members of national trends and national initiatives.

Membership is open to individuals at AAMC member institutions. Membership benefits include opportunities for networking and in-depth peer-to-peer learning.

The Central Group on Educational Affairs offers numerous opportunities for members to collaborate and participate in group decisions and governance

Special interest groups provide opportunities for members to collaborate in order to advance specific areas within the Central Group on Educational Affairs. Membership is open to individuals at AAMC member institutions.

Regional meetings provide a forum for exchanging ideas, learning new strategies, and developing plans that may facilitate your work and implementation of the CGEA mission. Each GEA region holds an annual spring meeting for faculty, educators, and administrators from the member institutions within their respective regions. Regional GEA meetings include sessions and exhibits analogous to those offered at the national and regional special interest groups (SIGs) meetings.
