This poster was presented at a previous IT in Academic Medicine Conference, hosted by the former Group on Information Resources, and is being retained here as an archived professional development resource. It presents preliminary findings of education technology organizational models found in schools of medicine.

Executive Summary: Generative AI in Academic Medicine— 2024 AAMC Medical School IT and SnippIT Survey Insights (PDF)
The former Group on Information Resources conducted two constituent surveys (2024 MSIT and 2025 SnippIT) to assess the adoption, governance, and impact of generative AI across medical schools in the United States and Canada. This summary highlights key trends and strategic imperatives for medical school leadership. This summary was prepared in December 2025 by the former Group on Information Resources Steering Committee and is being retained here as an archived professional development resource.

GIR Workforce Development Project (PDF)
In 2018-2019, the former Group on Information Resources Steering Committee developed this resource with the intent to examine the future IT workforce and the skills needed to be successful. As part of this process, the Steering Committee identified several areas of importance about the future workforce and communicated their viewpoints on these topics. The report represents the opinions of the former Group on Information Resources Steering Committee member(s) assigned to the topic. This resource is being retained here as an archived professional development resource.

Instructional Design and E-Learning Survey Report (PDF)
This document was created by the Online Interactive Educational Materials Project Team of the former Education Technology Work Group of the Group on Information Resources and is intended to identify common practices, share teaching and learning technologies, and to recommend the resources the AAMC should develop for instructional designers. It is being retained here as a professional development resource.

Use of Extended Reality in Medical Education (PDF)
In August 2022, the former AAMC GIR Education Technology Work Group XR Subcommittee developed the following SnippIT in August 2022 to collect information on the use of Extended Reality (XR) teaching, learning, and simulation experiences in medical education, as well as key obstacles to overcome in the adoption of XR resources.

Artificial Intelligence and Academic Medicine
The AAMC is committed to supporting and leading the advancement of AI in academic medicine, with a focus on fair access and ethical use. This work is focused on three main pillars: providing opportunities for you to learn and network with colleagues and experts, sharing critical resources to guide your use of AI tools in medical education and admissions, and leading key collaborations across the global health professions education community.

Medical School IT Survey
The Medical School IT Survey gathers information on leadership, financing, staffing, technologies, and emerging trends to provide members with a baseline to view their organizations over time and with a directory of application trends.

Medical Simulation in Medical Education
In 2023, the AAMC fielded a survey to U.S. and Canadian medical schools, teaching hospitals, health systems, universities, and health sciences centers to better understand the use of medical simulation in medical education.

SnippITs
These polls, or SnippITs, can be requested by any Technology and Data Group member. This resource is designed to facilitate information sharing for point-in-time queries, and the data will not be used for research purposes. Poll results are distributed in a summary report and aggregate data. If you would like to create a SnippIT, please review these guidelines and send us an email at techdata@aamc.org.

Mentorship Circle Program
The Mentorship Circle Program serves to connect Technology and Data Group members interested in receiving or providing professional and/or leadership development via Mentorship Circles, where mentors help to support mentees in both their careers and their group experience.
