    Guidelines for Data SnippITs

These guidelines were formed as part of the former Group on Information Resources and are being retained here as an archived professional development resource.

    Detailed Poll Guidelines

    • The author must be a current member of the AAMC GIR.
    • The purpose and outcome of the poll must benefit the GIR, and not be for the sole purpose of doctoral or personal research.

    Poll Development

    • Define a short poll title. This will be used in the header of the e-mail sent to GIR members.
    • Establish and document the goal of the poll. The goal statement will be included at the beginning of the poll.
    • The audience will be the GIR membership. If the poll is reaching out to a particular segment, such as security personnel, please identify this in the goal statement.
    • Keep the number of poll questions to no more than 10.
    • Keep the wording of the questions simple.
    • Only one open-ended text question will be allowed. The other questions should be multiple-choice, multiple ratings, or scales.
    • All polls will include an optional request for contact information.

    Administering the Poll

    • When a poll has been developed following the above guidelines, it should be submitted to gir@aamc.org for clearance.
    • Once approved by the GIR's Data and Benchmarking Committee, the poll will be implemented by AAMC staff and distributed to the GIR membership.
    • The poll will be available to the GIR membership for one week.
    • After closing the poll, a link to the raw data results will be provided to the author within one week of the closing.
    • A summary report will be developed by the GIR and the report will be posted on the GIR Data SnippITs Web page.
    • The GIR membership will be notified of the summary report in the weekly News and Notes message.

    Survey Results

    • The data retrieved from these polls is owned by AAMC GIR.
    • The poll summary report will be available on the AAMC GIR website up to a year or until it is noted that the poll results are no longer applicable.
