On the Hill

November 14, 2014—As a result of the Nov. 4 midterm elections, Republicans gained seats in both chambers of Congress and took control of the Senate. Republicans will gain at least eight seats in the Senate (with one race still outstanding) and 12 seats in the House of Representatives. Both parties have begun to hold elections for leadership positions in the next Congress. Key leadership for the 114th Congress includes:

  • Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.)
  • Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas)
  • Republican Senatorial Committee Chair Roger Wicker (R-Miss.)
  • Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.)
  • Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chair Jon Tester (D-Mont.)
  • Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio)
  • House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.)
  • House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.)

House Democrats are expected to elect their leadership next week.
