Rockefeller Bill Extends Funding for CHIP and Pediatric Quality Program

June 13, 2014— Sen. John Rockefeller IV (D-W.V.) June 11 introduced legislation that would extend through fiscal year (FY) 2019 federal funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The CHIP Extension Act of 2014 (S. 2461) would maintain the 23 percent FY 2016 “CHIP match” increase authorized under the ACA.

Without congressional action, funding for the program expires at the end of FY 2015. According to a press release issued by the Senator’s office, a failure to reauthorize CHIP would leave “nearly two million children without access to any affordable health care, and more than eight million children...without the specific care, services, and networks that CHIP provides.”

The legislation also would increase and extend funding for the Pediatric Quality Measures Program. Under S. 2461, the quality program would be appropriated $50 million for each of FYs 2014-2019.
