ERAS® for Medical Schools: Getting Started

New section

Welcome to ERAS®

The Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS®) streamlines the residency application process for applicants, their Designated Dean's Offices, Letter of Recommendation (LoR) authors and program directors. By providing applicants the ability to build and deliver their application and supporting materials individually or as a package to programs, ERAS provides a centralized, but flexible solution to the residency application and documents distribution process.

As a new ERAS user, we want to give you the tools you need to quickly acclimate yourself.

  • For new medical school staff:
It is important that you keep your contact information up to date in order to ensure that you receive all communication from ERAS. If at any time your information changes, please be sure to update it in ERAS Account Maintenance (EAM).
  • For new medical schools:
Newly accredited medical schools interested in participating with ERAS are required to submit a formal request. Please complete the New Medical School Submission Form (PDF) and email to eamrequests@aamc.org
    • The following information will be needed in order to complete the form:
School Name, Email, Address, Phone, Dean, Primary, and Secondary Contact Information
    • To participate in ERAS, medical schools must meet these requirements:
      LCME®-Accredited Medical Schools
At least a Provisional Accreditation Status with the LCME
An incoming class of fourth-year medical students
Submission of a New Medical School Participation Form

      COCA-Accredited Medical Schools
A Provisional Accreditation status with COCA
An incoming class of fourth-year medical students
Submission of a New Medical School Participation Form

ERAS Staff will contact you to confirm your request within 2-3 business days. We look forward to having you join us!
  • What are the fees?
    • LCME-Accredited Medical Schools
ERAS is currently a benefit of your membership in the AAMC.
    • Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation-Accredited Medical Schools
There is no charge for using ERAS.
  • What if I have a question?
The ERAS HelpDesk is available to assist schools with questions about installing and running the Dean’s Office Workstation (DWS). Contact the ERAS HelpDesk by phone (202) 862-6249 Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET; questions can also be emailed 24 hours a day to the ERAS HelpDesk
ERAS also provides technical support to applicants. However, Designated Dean’s Offices should remain the primary resource for applicant questions. Inquiries that require an immediate response that schools cannot address should be forwarded to the ERAS HelpDesk.

If you have any questions, or would like to give us feedback, please contact us.
