ERAS® for Medical Schools: Getting Started

Welcome to the ERAS® Program

The Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS®) streamlines the residency application process for applicants, their Designated Dean's Offices, Letter of Recommendation (LoR) authors and program directors. By providing applicants the ability to build and deliver their application and supporting materials individually or as a package to programs, the ERAS program provides an integrated and flexible solution to the residency application and documents distribution process.

As a new ERAS user, we want to give you the tools you need to quickly acclimate yourself.

  • For new medical school staff:
It is important that you keep your contact and school information up to date in order to receive ERAS communications. If at any time your information changes, please be sure to update it directly in the Dean's Office WorkStation (DWS).

To update your information in the DWS:

Log in with your AAMC credentials.
Click on the new "Set Up" tab in the upper right-hand corner.
On the left-hand panel, please select "School Contacts" or "Dean and School Information" to update your information.

This information is stored privately for access by ERAS staff. Your data will not be shared with applicants.

  • For new medical schools:
Newly accredited medical schools interested in participating with the ERAS program are required to submit a formal request. Please complete the New Medical School Submission Form (PDF) and email to eamrequests@aamc.org
    • The following information will be needed in order to complete the form:
School Name, Email, Address, Phone, Dean, Primary, and Secondary Contact Information
    • To participate in the ERAS program, medical schools must meet these requirements:
      LCME®-Accredited Medical Schools
At least a Provisional Accreditation Status with the LCME® accrediting authority
An incoming class of fourth-year medical students
Submission of a New Medical School Participation Form

      COCA-Accredited Medical Schools

What if I have a question?

  • For questions about installing and/or running the Dean’s Office Workstation (DWS) please contact the AAMC Support Center (ASC) at (202) 862-6249 or submit a request or inquiry.
  • The ERAS program also provides technical support to applicants. However, Designated Dean’s Offices should remain the primary resource for applicant questions. Inquiries that require an immediate response that schools cannot address should be forwarded to the AAMC Support Center.
