Working With Interpreters as a Team in Health Care (WITH Care) Curriculum Tool Kit for Oral Health Professions

Last Updated: April 10, 2020

Description

A 3.5-hour simulation-based training designed to enhance the ability of oral health professionals and trained interpreters to work with each other and with patients with limited English proficiency as a high-functioning health care team. It intends to address an important training gap - how healthcare providers and trained interpreters effectively interact and collaborate to provide high-quality, culturally responsive care to patients whose primary or preferred language is not English. The curriculum includes profession-specific orientations with didactic and experiential content, three immersive simulations using start-stop-rewind methodology, virtual scenarios, and summary reflection discussions. A comprehensive tool kit facilitates curriculum implementation and standardization.
