Group on Student Affairs (GSA) Steering Committee

July 2013

The GSA remains committed to proactively addressing the reality of an increasingly competitive match and is working alongside the Council of Deans (COD) to continue to advocate for GME slots and strategize for alternate solutions. Students are not alone in facing the uncertain future—the GSA and COD are both taking ownership of this issue and dealing with it head on.

NRMP: The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) has elected to operate a shortened Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP) schedule starting with Match Week 2014 due to the small number of positions offered during the final rounds of SOAP. The following changes have been made to the timeline:

  • SOAP will conclude after Round 5 at 5:00 p.m. ET on Thursday of Match Week
  • Match Day will continue to be on Friday, with US medical schools holding their ceremonies at noon

Annual Meeting: The Council of Deans, Group on Diversity & Inclusion, Group on Resident Affairs, Group on Regional Medical Campuses, Group on Student Affairs, Organization of Resident Representatives, and Organization of Student Representatives, will be hosting a collaborative session at the AAMC Annual Meeting in Philadelphia. The session will continue the conversation that began in San Francisco on learner mistreatment. Performance arts will be used to spark dialogue among faculty, medical students, residents, and academic administrators on issues of mistreatment and the institutional learning environment.
