Women in Academic Medicine Statistics and Medical School Benchmarking, 2011-2012
The continued publication of this data underscores AAMC's commitment to support the entire spectrum of activities conducted by our member institutions. For nearly three decades, this survey has examined women representation in accredited U.S. medical schools.
For the 2011-2012 survey, GWIMS Designated Representatives and Faculty Roster Representatives from 126 U.S. medical schools with full accreditation from the LCME were asked to partner in providing data on faculty rank, leadership positions, new hires, promotion, tenure status, and departures. The AAMC received responses from 113 schools, representing a 90 percent response rate.
Tables 1-12 report the percentages of men and women in the pipeline of students and residents, examine gender differences in areas of faculty hire and promotion, and provide breakouts of the representation of men and women in leadership positions. Figures 1-8 provide a graphical representation of data trends, which are discussed in more detail in the report.
