The AAMC is deeply committed to improving the transition to residency for students, from the beginning of the specialty research and selection process through the completion of residency and on to clinical practice. Supporting the well-being, training, professional development, and equitable treatment of all medical students and residents is critical to the health of the United States.

Transition to Residency

The Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program® (SOAP®) allow eligible unmatched, or partially unmatched applicants to apply to programs with unfilled residency positions and receive offers through the National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP®) system.

Transition to Residency

On April 3 from 6-9 p.m. ET., medical students can join the Virtual Specialty Forum to learn about 30 specialties. Attendees can view specialty-specific resources, chat with residents and program directors, and attend a presentation panel of physicians.

In the ERAS 2024 season, the AAMC teams integrated new content into the MyERAS application to better facilitate holistic review and improve the application screening process.
