The AAMC is actively engaged in a variety of initiatives promoting the advancement of interprofessional education.
Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC)
In 2009, the AAMC, along with five other education associations representing nursing, pharmacy, osteopathic medicine, dentistry, and public health, created the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) to advance interprofessional education.
IPEC was formed to promote and encourage constituent efforts that advance substantive interprofessional learning experiences to help prepare future clinicians for team-based care of patients.
IPEC's report, Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice, outlines core competencies around four main domains: values and ethics, roles and responsibilities, interprofessional communication, and teams and teamwork. These competencies are now informing innovative interprofessional education experiences nationwide. More resources from IPEC can be found on their website.

Navigating a Foodborne Outbreak: Preparation for Interprofessional Practice
This self-paced, interactive learning module demonstrates the importance of interprofessional practice among health professionals to improve and protect population health, in the context of a foodborne outbreak. It can be integrated into health professions curricula as an individual activity as well as a small group or classroom learning activity. This module was developed collaboratively by the AAMC, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR), the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH), and CDC.
