Centralized Application Services
Most U.S. medical schools use The American Medical College Application Service® (AMCAS®) as the primary application method for their first-year entering classes. The Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS®) is the service used to transmit applications to residency programs.
AMCAS is available to first-year applicants at participating U.S. medical schools. Applicants submit just one online application to AMCAS, regardless of the number of medical schools to which they are applying. As part of AMCAS’ dedication to the complete application process, the platform includes the AMCAS Letter Service and the AAMC-facilitated Criminal Background Check Service. Video tutorials, webinar recordings, the AMCAS Instruction Manual, and other student resources are available online. In addition, AMCAS offers the Advisor Information System to help prehealth advisors effectively assist their applicants.
The leading provider of trusted, meaningful data and tools tailored for medical school admissions, AMCAS is used by more than 140 U.S. medical schools to streamline the exchange of information with aspiring physicians.
AMCAS provides medical schools a platform to facilitate the admissions process, from application collection to decision reporting. By verifying coursework and normalizing GPA calculations, AMCAS delivers processed academic data that enables consistent evaluation throughout the admission process. The collection and distribution of letters of evaluation and criminal background checks are also supplied by AMCAS. National applicant data is reported by AMCAS regularly to help schools compare their local applicant pool with the national pool.
ERAS streamlines the residency application process for applicants, their Designated Dean's Offices, Letter of Recommendation (LoR) authors and program directors. By providing applicants the ability to build and deliver their application and supporting materials individually or as a package to programs, ERAS provides a centralized, but flexible solution to the residency application and documents distribution process.
