With the end of the spring season several new and exciting things are happening in the Western Region! Our joint WOSR/WGSA/WGEA meeting was a great success in March and I am excited to announce that Christina Chopra of California University of Science and Medicine SOM has been elected as incoming Chair of the WOSR. Christina and her team of incoming delegates will be working with current WOSR leadership to address issues related to student wellness, transitions to residency, OSR engagement opportunities, and plans for the upcoming year. Christina and her team will officially transition at Learn, Serve, Lead 2019: The AAMC Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona from November 8 -12th. More information will be coming soon!
In addition to the spring western meeting, we’ve had national discussions related to the INCUS meetings and the possibility of Step 1 becoming Pass/Fail in the future. Most of these conversations center on how student success is being measured and what elements make an individual a successful resident and future physician in the context of the changing landscape of medicine. These talks have been dynamic and include individuals from all levels of the medical education system and any and all comments or feedback is much appreciated. At this time, no specific decisions have been made related to Step 1.
We are at this moment crafting new ways to interact and work with the WOSR members at large. We need your input on how to best do this, and in the coming months we will be communicating with you via email to help streamline and shape this process for both the coming year and for the foreseeable future. Please contact me at email@example.com if you would like to stay informed or have any ideas or comments on these topics. As always, it is an honor serving you, and I look forward to our coming adventures!
