The Joint Working Group is comprised of the AAMC's Group on Educational Affairs (GEA) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Section Steering Committee and the leadership of the Society for Academic Continuing Medical Education (SACME).
Its Vision: Lifelong Learning
Its Mission: To facilitate the development of a more effective, patient- and population-centered, and integrated model of continuing medical education/continuing professional development (CME/CPD) based in academic medical centers (AMCs), with strong bi-directional connections to the community.
The envisioned CME/CPD model is integrated into the continuum of medical education. It is responsive to current initiatives, needs, and new content areas presented by the health care system. The model emphasizes measurable and clear objectives in these areas:
- Outcomes: Improving performance
- Methods: Understanding and using effective methods to support physician and health care team learning, change and quality
- Content: Focusing on learner needs, met by evidence-based resources and information
- Support: Integrating CME/CPD into the infrastructure of the academic medical center, emphasizing the value of CME/CPD to the AMC
- Targets: Faculty members, individual clinicians, and interprofessional teams; health care systems; stakeholders internal and external to the AMC; patients; and the community
- Partnerships: Developing collegial collaborations
