Learner Access, Support, Opportunity, and Retention Group Membership and Benefits
The Learner Access, Support, Opportunity, and Retention Group is open to faculty and professional staff at AAMC-member medical schools with responsibilities for learner support and services. Members hold leadership or administrative positions in one or more of the following areas of expertise: admissions, student affairs, financial aid, student records, academic support, learner progression, advising, wellness, and equitable access to opportunities.
How to Join
Learner Access, Support, Opportunity, and Retention Group members are also invited to join our members-only group in the AAMC Virtual Communities. Enrolling in this platform will enable you to connect with peers, contribute to discussion boards, and view announcements. Complete both steps to gain full access to the Learner Access, Support, Opportunity, and Retention Group:
- Complete the AAMC affinity group enrollment form.
- Create your AAMC Virtual Communities account and request to join the Learner Access, Support, Opportunity, and Retention Group Virtual Community.
Communities of Practice
Upon joining the group, new members are invited to join one or more Community of Practice based on their role, area of expertise, or interest. The work of each of these communities is led by a Standing Committee. Each committee is chaired by a member of the group Steering Committee.
- Recruitment, Admissions, Selection, and Enrollment Community: Supports the full life cycle of applicant recruitment and matriculation into medical school.
- Student Advising, Support, and Records Management Community: Supports medical student success and well-being from matriculation to graduation. Provides academic and career advising. Manages records and student progression.
- Financial Aid Management and Education Community: Manages financial aid, literacy, counseling, and support for medical students navigating training pathways including clinical away rotations and detours.
- Student Opportunity, Access, and Retention Community: Promotes equitable access to learning and environments where all feel respected and included. Fosters social connectedness and fair academic progression.
- Research, Engagement, Growth, and Scholarship Community: Supports scholarly activity, mentorship, and professional and leadership development for students, staff, and faculty.
