The GIR Medical School IT Survey gathers information on leadership, financing, staffing, technologies and emerging trends to provide members with a baseline to view their organizations over time and with a directory of application trends.
The data from the survey is available to all AAMC member institutions that participated in the survey. Over 72.9% of invited member medical schools completed the 2023 survey.
The survey collects data on the following:
- Technology products utilized (nearly 100 product types for administrative, educational, clinical, research, regulatory/compliance management, and security purposes)
- Leadership organization
- Reporting structure
- Strategic plans, budget
- IT staffing
- Provision of services
- Future plans and technology priorities

A Power BI-based analytics template prototype that you and your colleagues may wish to use with your medical school's copy of the 2024 Medical School IT (MSIT) Survey Data File. If your medical school participated in the 2024 MSIT Survey, the AAMC emailed the Data File to your medical school's GIR representatives on March 31, 2025. This analytics template prototype was built by your GIR colleagues at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine and the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. These analytics template prototype and associated user guidance materials are provided on an as-is basis without warranty of any kind as to completeness or accuracy, and use of these analytics template materials releases the AAMC from any and all liability for inaccurate or incomplete information.
