n indicates the total number of medical schools that require any component for for the given academic year.
N indicates the total number of medical schools that participated in the survey for the given academic year.

Notes:
1. This information was not collected in 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. The "n" counts for those years are "n/a," which indicates these components were not on the survey. The "N" counts for those years shows the number of medical schools that participated in the survey, even though this information was not collected.
2. The USMLE Step 2 CS exam was permanently cancelled in January 2021. Therefore, beginning in 2022-2023, medical schools no longer require this exam for advancement/promotion or graduation.
