Meet the 2023 award winner: Aayush Visaria, MD
Purpose
The purpose of the ORR Community Service Recognition Award is to foster a service ethic among resident physicians by recognizing those who have made contributions above and beyond the rigors of residency training to improve the local communities surrounding their training institution.
For the purpose of this award, community service is defined broadly as any extra-curricular activity directed toward meeting health or other human needs in the communities where residents live and train.
Eligibility
Residents at AAMC member institutions are eligible for the award, including, but not limited to, members of the Organization of Resident Representatives. Service activity to be considered should have occurred during the term of residency or fellowship training, though the awardee may have completed residency by the time of the nomination. Nominations can be put forward by any member of the AAMC community, including faculty, staff, administrators, residents, and students.
Award
The recipient will be honored during a virtual ceremony. Notice of the award will be sent to the resident's program director and department chair. If the awardee is a member of the ORR, the appointing member society of the AAMC Council of Academic Societies also will be notified. A $1,250 contribution will be made in the name of the awardee to a nonprofit charity the awardee designates.
