Institutions and students have a shared need for a consistent process for submitting student immunization forms to institutions that host visiting students. As many Host institutions ask for the same core set of immunization requirements, a standardized form is called for. Widespread use of this standard form creates efficiencies for medical institutions completing myriad immunization forms, when a standard, predictable approach is sufficient.
The foundation of AAMC’s Standardized Immunization Form is the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommended vaccines for healthcare workers. CDC recommendations are a national standard developed through a rigorous process by a panel of national experts. When developing the original form, we also conducted extensive outreach through various forums and individual contacts and received invaluable feedback from many AAMC members. The Standardized Immunization Form is now reviewed annually and, when appropriate, updated.
This form may be adopted for use by any institution which hosts visiting students, regardless if the institution receives applications through the AAMC’s Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO). If additional requirements are needed, beyond what the AAMC Standardized Immunization Form collects, a Host institution should provide supplemental information outlining the additional requirements.
Consistent use of the AAMC Standardized Immunization Form throughout the medical education community saves time, reduces costs, and standardizes expectations.
