    Facts & Figures 2022

Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania
Print and Digital Publishing: Single or Special Issue - Bronze

Facts & Figures 2022 is a pocket-size brochure containing data about Penn Medicine, including information about new facilities and statistics about its economic impact, our workforce, and the student community.

What was the most impactful part of your entry?
The most impactful part of this project was capturing major accomplishments that had both local and global impacts. We celebrated the opening of the Pavilion — our new hospital that opened in October 2021. The hospital took years of comprehensive configuration for training and construction and transformed how our staff can deliver care with state-of-the-art technology. In the brochure, we also featured the development and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, highlighting the mRNA technology that serves as the foundation of the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines — pioneered by two Penn researchers. The mRNA-based vaccines were administered not only at a local level at community vaccination clinics but also around the world.

What is one thing you learned from your entry/experience?
We learned how to enhance the user experience by offering new avenues for consuming content, placing an emphasis on how to display and distribute digital content. We included QR codes for readers to scan and explore more of Penn’s web content, along with creating an Adobe Express page with scrolling capabilities to enhance the user experience on mobile devices.

    What challenge did you overcome?
The COVID-19 pandemic presented challenges by limiting in-person events where print brochures are typically distributed, such as new employee onboarding. To keep employees aware of and engaged with Facts & Figures 2022, we publicized the launch of the brochure across our internal newsletters and emails, along with posts on social media.
