    Denise Jamieson, MD, MPH, has been named vice president for medical affairs and dean of the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, effective Aug. 1. Dr. Jamieson is the James Robert McCord Professor and Chair of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Emory University School of Medicine and chief of gynecology and obstetrics for Emory Healthcare. Dr. Jamieson is a senior CFAS representative from Emory — the second CFAS rep from Emory in roughly a year (after Carolyn Meltzer, MD, dean of the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California) who has become a medical school dean.

Dr. Bertagnolli is director of the National Cancer Institute in the NIH," reported the New York Times. Dr. Gottlieb is currently associate dean for Faculty Affairs at University of Massachusetts T.H. Chan School of Medicine - Baystate and chief faculty development officer at Baystate Health. She is additionally professor of Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology at UMass Chan SOM - Baystate. Dr. Gottlieb was a plenary presenter on salary equity in academic medicine at the recently completed CFAS Spring Meeting in Salt Lake City. She is also the current chair of the AAMC Group on Women in Medicine and Science.

    Ana Fernandez-Sesma, PhD, has been appointed chair of the Department of Microbiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Fernandez-Sesma will direct all educational and research functions of the department while cultivating an academic culture that advances insights into virology, vaccinology, immunology, and microbiology and encourages innovative approaches to teaching and mentoring.

A Q&A by the Associated Press addressed some of the challenges physicians face today, especially as they relate to LGBTQ+ issues that have taken such a high profile in recent months. At 44, the Navy combat veteran is also one of the youngest AMA presidents in history.

Dr. Fish, who is currently chief medical officer of Southwestern Health Resources, a collaboration between Texas Health Resources and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, will succeed Paul Genecin, MD, who retired in January after 33 years of service to the Yale community, including as CEO of Yale Health since 1997. Dr. Fish will begin his new role July 1.

    Lisa Cain, PhD, has been named associate vice president of Faculty Affairs and Development at UTHealth Houston. Dr. Cain, professor and associate dean for Professional Development and Faculty Affairs at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry, will oversee the university’s faculty recruitment, evaluation, promotion, and retention of faculty. Dr. Cain additionally serves as chair of the AAMC Group on Faculty Affairs and is an ex officio member of the CFAS Administrative Board.

    Jinping Xu, MD, MS, has been appointed chair of the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Xu is a professor in the department.

Dr. Hildreth is a former chair of the CFAS Communications Committee, now the CFAS Engagement Committee, and program director for general surgery residency and associate chair of education for the department of surgery at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

    Cheryl McCullumsmith, MD, PhD, has been appointed the Robert M. Rogers Distinguished University Professor and founding chair of the Robert M. Rogers Department of Psychiatry at The University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine, beginning June 2023. Dr. McCullumsmith is chair of psychiatry at the University of Toledo, chief medical officer for value based care for the University of Toledo Physicians, and lead of the statewide Ohio Behavioral Health Taskforce.
