The Senate voted 61-37 to confirm Andrea Palm as Health and Human Services (HHS) Deputy Secretary on May 11. The vote follows a Senate Finance Committee vote on April 22 [Washington Highlights April 23].
In an April 12 letter from AAMC President and CEO David J. Skorton, MD, to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Ranking Member Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), the AAMC supported Palm’s nomination and urged her swift confirmation.
In the letter, Skorton stated that Palm “is well-qualified to help lead HHS’s efforts to enhance the health and well-being of everyone through the department’s public health and research missions, especially as the department continues to respond to the current pandemic and address other important health care needs.”
