President Joe Biden on Sept. 26 signed a continuing resolution (CR, H.R. 9747) after the House approved the measure the day before by a vote of 341-82 and the Senate passed the bill by a vote of 78-18 on Wednesday.
The CR extends fiscal year 2025 funding for all 12 annual spending bills, including the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education bill, through Dec. 20. The House has passed five of 12 spending bills on party-line votes, while the Senate has advanced 11 of 12 spending bills out of committee with bipartisan support [refer to Washington Highlights, July 12 and Aug. 2]. The CR will allow the federal government to continue operating while Congress completes its work on the annual spending bills.
After passing the temporary funding measure, the House and Senate will be in recess and expected to return to Capitol Hill on Nov. 12.
