The House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee held a Nov. 29 hearing entitled “Understanding How AI Is Changing Health Care." The hearing, which explored the use of artificial intelligence in health care and hospitals, featured witnesses from HCA Healthcare, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, UC San Diego Health, Siemens Healthineers, and Transcarent. Members of the subcommittee largely focused on how the technology is being deployed in health care, what regulations exist or may be needed to ensure patient safety and privacy, and how to continue to foster innovation. Many members of the subcommittee acknowledged that more information is needed before the committee can take action.
