The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) assistant secretary for technology released a new artificial intelligence (AI) strategic plan (PDF) on Jan. 10. The plan provides a road map for the use of AI in health care delivery; medical research and discovery; medical product development, safety, and effectiveness; human services; and public health. The strategic plan highlights the agency’s goal to be a global leader in advancing health care using AI by prioritizing innovation while emphasizing the importance of quality of care, safety, equity, and patient privacy. Overall, the HHS intends to use the strategic plan to prioritize resources, coordinate efforts across agencies, benchmark progress, and signal its priorities to industry, academia, and the public.
