On June 8, the AAMC submitted comments in response to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) proposed rule.

Among the comments provided to the agency, the AAMC asked for an increase to the market basket update to account for increased labor and supply costs and responded to the CMS’ request for information regarding safety-net hospitals. The association encouraged the agency to finalize its proposal to reimburse graduate medical education training at rural emergency hospitals. For the value-based purchasing program, the AAMC encouraged the CMS to adopt the Health Equity Adjustment to Program Scoring as a first step to better account for and reward high quality care for underserved populations.
