At a Sept. 28 reception and awards ceremony celebrating the role of women in advocacy and public policy, AAMC Director of Government Relations Ally Perleoni won the Women in Government Relations (WGR) Excellence in Advocacy Award for Excellence in a Federal Issue Campaign. WGR event attendees gathered to acknowledge and celebrate Perleoni’s outstanding work to successfully impact “the outcome of a federal legislative or regulatory problem or opportunity on behalf of their cause, issue, client, organization or coalition.”
The recognition specifically highlighted Perleoni’s leadership role in advancing numerous key academic medicine advocacy priorities including two increases in Medicare-supported graduate medical education (GME) — the first such increases in nearly 25 years [refer to Washington Highlights, Jan. 4, Dec. 29, 2020]. The award highlighted Perleoni’s leadership of the GME Advocacy Coalition, direct advocacy with key congressional and committee staff, and strategic deployment of advocacy resources.
