On August 3, 2021, the AAMC GIR Excellence Award winning team from the University of Washington presented on their innovative and timely work that was recognized for excellence by their GIR peers.
With Seattle emerging as one of the first COVID-19 hot spots in North America, the University of Washington's REDCap instance became a key clinical resource for UW Medicine and local and county government health agencies, with projects ranging from early case tracking to contract tracing to back-to-campus testing. The influx of COVID-related projects led to a surge in new users and load on REDCap infrastructure, with support staff from the Institute of Translational Health Sciences, UW Medicine Research IT and the UW Health Sciences Library triaging more than 18,000 requests from March 2020 to April 2021. Members of the UW REDCap support staff explored the history of REDCap at UW, the collaborative support model, and the challenges faced managing the platform during an unprecedented pandemic.
