Community and Diversity

February 2018

Thank you for electing me as your 2017-2018 National Delegate for Community and Diversity. I am very excited to be working with you all throughout the next year to promote diversity and inclusion within OSR and throughout the nation.

Here are a few updates on behalf of the OSR Community and Diversity Committee:

  • From the December COSDA call — GDI is continuing to develop a tool kit for diversity officers and is looking for further engagement with other AAMC affinity groups to try and promote diversity initiatives throughout medical school leadership, faculty, staff, and learners. This has led to reflection and discussion about a AAMC Analysis in Brief entitled “Trends in Racial and Ethnic Minority Applicants and Matriculants to U.S. Medical Schools, 1980–2016,” which will continue to be discussed during the next conference call.
  • We are planning to investigate the demographic make up of the OSR. Our goal is to compare this data with national averages to highlight or work towards a diverse group of student leaders that is reflective of medical education nationwide.
  • We are also working to organize Affinity Group meetings during Continuum Connections 2018 GSA, GRA, OSR, and ORR Joint Spring Meeting.
