Graduate Medical Education Group Membership & Benefits

The Graduate Medical Education Group represents institutional leaders who oversee graduate medical education quality, accreditation, administration, and financing in AAMC-member medical schools and teaching hospitals.

Members are responsible for graduate medical education at the institutional level. They have titles such as:

  • Dean for graduate medical education (associate, assistant).
  • Designated institutional official (associate or assistant).
  • Graduate medical education directors.
  • Executive vice president for graduate medical education (associate or assistant).
  • Senior vice president for educational affairs, graduate medical education, or accreditation.
  • Vice dean, vice president, or vice chair for graduate medical education.
  • Program directors and graduate medical education coordinators.

Standing Committees

  • Conference Program Planning Committee: This committee is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating the annual AAMC Graduate Medical Education Conference. The committee is led by the Steering Committee chair-elect, and at least five group members-at-large.
  • Nominations Committee: This committee is responsible for soliciting open nominations for the Steering Committee from group members and composes a slate of nominees reflecting the group’s broad representation and their roles. Once the consent of the nominee has been received, the slate of nominations for Steering Committee positions shall be publicized in advance of an election. The Nominations Committee is chaired by the Steering Committee immediate past chair. The Steering Committee chair and the chair-elect serve as committee members, in addition to two group members-at-large.
  • Institutional GME Leadership Competencies Committee: This committee is responsible for reviewing and revising the Core Competencies for Institutional GME Leaders report compendium of competencies essential for excellence in institutional GME leadership roles and the attending self-assessment tool, designed to support the continuing development of current and aspiring institutional GME leaders. Committee members are tasked with updating content based on changes in the GME environment and the evolving role of the institutional GME leader. The committee is chaired by a Steering Committee member-at-large and at least five group members-at-large.
