Actions by the U.S. government in 2025, along with growing skepticism of science and higher education, introduced an existential threat to medical research in the country in general and at Harvard in particular. We developed a robust array of materials across multiple digital platforms and engaged in strategic media relations to convey to taxpayers, policymakers, prospective students and partners, and potential funders the critical need to preserve research efforts in the nation and at Harvard Medical School to continue to power new treatments that save lives.
What was the most impactful part of your entry?
Coming together as a team to identify and share powerful stories about our institution and community members that advocate for science and higher education during an unprecedented crisis of federal, public, and monetary support. Seeing the impact these stories have made on the public conversation as well as the individuals involved.
What is one thing you learned from your entry/experience?
The power of first-person narratives from our researchers that weave together life stories, philosophies, and scientific goals to convey people's passion and heartbreak as they try to work toward understanding biology and improving people's lives.
