Members of the AAMC-led Health Professions and Nursing Education Coalition (HPNEC) — an alliance of more than 90 national organizations dedicated to training a health care workforce that meets the needs of all patients — sent a Nov. 18 letter (PDF) to House and Senate Appropriations Committee leadership urging no less than the Senate Appropriations Committee-approved level of $892.8 million for the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Title VII health professions and Title VIII nursing workforce programs for fiscal year (FY) 2025.

The letter also urged Congress to finalize the FY 2025 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies spending bill in December; support increased investments for the Title VII and VIII programs; and reject proposed cuts to HRSA's Medical Student Education program and diversity pathway programs, including the Title VII Centers of Excellence and the Health Careers Opportunity Program, and the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Diversity Program.

On Sept. 26, President Joe Biden signed a continuing resolution that temporarily extended funding for these programs through Dec. 20 [refer to Washington Highlights, Sept. 27].
