The AAMC, on March 16, joined more than 25 national health care organizations in a sign-on letter (PDF) supporting continued congressional action to strengthen Advanced Alternative Payment Models (APMs) and modernize Medicare physician payment. The letter, sent to leaders of the Senate Finance Committee and the House Committees on Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce, thanked lawmakers for extending APM incentive payments in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2026 (P.L. 119-75) and urged additional reforms to support the transition to value-based care.

In the letter, the organizations emphasized that APMs improve quality and lower costs by promoting preventive care, care coordination, and population health management, noting that Medicare’s Shared Savings Program alone generated more than $6 billion in savings in 2024. The coalition called on Congress to build on this progress by modernizing financial incentives, stabilizing physician payments through annual updates tied to inflation, and reducing administrative burdens that hinder participation. The letter also urged policymakers to strengthen pathways into APMs, particularly for rural and underserved providers, and to support the CMS Innovation Center in developing and scaling successful models to improve care delivery and affordability across the Medicare program.
