The Accreditation, Innovation, and Modernization (AIM) Committee, convened by the U.S. Department of Education, met April 13-17 to develop proposed regulations on higher education accreditation [refer to Washington Highlights, Jan. 30]. Prior to the meeting, the department released initial draft regulatory language (PDF), a summary of key proposals (PDF), and a list of negotiators (PDF).
During the session, the committee reviewed draft regulatory text and focused discussions on accreditor recognition and oversight, student achievement and outcomes standards, and the balance between accreditor authority and institutional autonomy.
The next AIM Committee session is scheduled for May 18-22.
